Baseball

Baseball is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams, typically consisting of nine players each. The game is played on a diamond-shaped field with four bases arranged in a square. The objective is for the offensive team, known as the batting team, to score runs by hitting a pitched ball and running around the bases to return to home plate. The defensive team, known as the fielding team, aims to prevent runs by getting batters out through various means, such as catching batted balls, throwing to bases before runners arrive, or striking them out.

Each game consists of nine innings, during which both teams have a turn to bat and a turn to field. A run is scored when a player successfully reaches home plate after touching all four bases in order. Baseball is characterized by its unique terminology, including terms like “strike,” “ball,” “home run,” and “double play,” and it has a rich history and cultural significance, particularly in the United States, where it is often referred to as America’s pastime. The game is governed by specific rules and has been played professionally at various levels, including Major League Baseball (MLB), which is the sport’s highest level in North America.
